Wyatt's first road-trip!

I guess the trip is over, but the journey is just beginning…

Congratulations “Daddy”…so many people said it, but the most moving was when my “Daddy” looked into the eyes of his paranoid 33 year-old Son and uttered those words 15 minutes after Wyatt’s birth. It wasn’t the Hallmark moment I’d envisioned and was anything less than perfect. After I shut down the video camera, I had to explain that Wyatt was being taken immediately to the NICU.

Here we are 60 hours later: approximately 20 feedings and God only knows how many sticks, pokes, and diapers our little guy has been through. However, he’s here, he’s healthy, and he’s going home with us!

I’m writing this blog as we’re waiting on the doc to come give him the final blessing for discharge.

We didn’t know on November 15th when Maggie went into pre-term labor if we’d ever see this day or what was in-store. It’s hard to believe that chapter is closing and a new one is beginning.

We have received so many gifts and so much support. This next comment is not meant to diminish any of those in any way, but it warrants much more than a mention in this blog.

Dan and Brooke Brand have become close friends of ours through the small group that we host for our church. They have two adorable little girls Sammie and Natalie. They also are amazingly talented people. Last night I got a pop-up notification on a Facebook feed and through their business Brand Photodesign, they had posted a very moving blog with Maggie’s maternity pictures. I was lucky enough to be in a few and I’m not real hard to pick out! The pictures are amazing as are their words. Here is the link: http://www.brandphotodesign.com/ . I cannot express how much this meant to us, we were both in tears and they documented a beautiful time in our lives.

Now, it’s time for the “journey’ to begin which starts with Wyatt getting to meet all the wonderful people who invest in us on a daily basis.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a tattooed guy cry, well this is the time. Maggie has hormones as an excuse. I on the other hand attribute the tears to joy – of a God that’s provided more than I deserve, of a beautiful wife and son, of this overwhelming sense of gratitude to all who care for us.

In amazement,

Chris

  1. I have learned in my first two years of fatherhood there are plenty of more tears ahead. There are no tears heavier than tears of fatherhood, welcome to the fraternity. We are excited for Wyatt playing for years to come in the neighborhood with the rest of the kids.

Congratulations and can not wait to meet the little man
